A story that is two thousand years old

Fortunately there is an alternative in raw chocolate with a story that goes back almost 2,000 years…
The story of chocolate stretches into the mists of time with the ancient South American Olmec people from whom the Mayas, and later the Aztecs, adopted the tradition of refining cacao beans. The latter have become a staple of Latin American menus.
For these cultures, chocolate was a beverage mixed with a variety of spices. Thanks to Christopher Columbus, cacao beans reached Europe. It was there that a recipe for chocolate, as we know it today, was created.

Discover some of the numerous qualities of raw chocolate

Yes, raw chocolate is incredibly good for you! It is full of vitamins, nutrients, minerals and antioxidants.

  • Raw chocolate is rich in iron. The human body does not produce this essential element, but it cannot function properly without iron. Iron is an important component of haemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to transport it throughout your body… If you don’t have enough iron, your body can’t make enough healthy oxygen-carrying red blood cells. Iron deficiency anaemia is the world’s most common nutritional deficiency disease and is most prevalent among children and women of childbearing age. Iron prevents anemia, fights bacteria and viruses.

  • Raw chocolate contains more magnesium than any other chocolate product.  Magnesium is indispensable for the proper functioning of the nervous, the cardiovascular and the muscular system. It reduces stress provoked by our fast-paced lifestyle. In addition, it is involved in hundreds reactions that occur within the body: builds strong bones, improves digestion, prevents osteoporosis, and soothes menstrual pains. As a result, it is an essential element of life – from birth to death.

  • Raw chocolate provides a great deal of phosphorus, an essential nutrient required for proper cell functioning, regulation of calcium, strong bones and teeth, and for making ATP (adenosine triphosphate), a molecule which provides energy to our cells. Because of this raw chocolate has a beneficial effect on skin, hair and nails.

  • Our chocolate contains flavanols which bolster the circulatory system and prevent diseases.

  • Raw chocolate is a source of theobromine, a substance similar to caffeine without addictive qualities. Theobromine broadens blood vessels, enhances the functioning of the heart, and stimulates the brain. It helps muscle recovery after a hard workout. Research has shown that cacao is more effective at lowering blood pressure than black and green tea.

  • Raw chocolate boasts important antioxidant properties that slow down the ageing processes and strengthen the immune system.

The ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) score of raw chocolate stands at around 28,000 units, which is one of the highest scores in the world. In comparison, blueberry, a fruit that is among the richest in antioxidants, has the score below 2.500 units.

  • Raw chocolate has a wealth ofvitamins B and C as well as sulphur – the ‘beauty mineral’ that can improve the condition of your skin, hair and nails.

Added to that, it’s a natural anti-depressant, and an aphrodisiac! In fact, it may contain as many as 300 identifiable chemical compounds, making it one of the most complex foods known to man.

If you want to treat yourself to a moment of indulgent guilt-free pleasure, try raw chocolate.
